GATS grows in size and attendance
In it’s seventh year, Great American
Trucking Show continues to gain momentum

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. (Sept. 07, 2005)The Dallas Convention Center hosted 44,925 attendees August 25-27, 2005, for the 7th annual Great American Trucking Show. The attendance grew 5 percent over 2004, for the third consecutive year of growth.

“We are very pleased with our consistent growth over the last three years,” says Alan Sims, GATS executive director. “Because we consistently add reasons for qualified truck and trailer purchasers to attend, we are confident that GATS will continue to flourish.”

Sims credits extensive pre-show marketing targeting specific types of attendees with much of the show’s growth. Attendance by fleet executives grew 12 percent, while owner-operator attendance increased 5 percent, he says.

GATS hosted the 1st annual GATS Fleet Forum this year, which attracted more than 200 trucking company executives. The GATS Fleet Forum offered a full slate of industry expert speakers, as well as networking and entertainment opportunities.

For the second straight year, the show floor, as well as the exhibitor count, grew. GATS expanded into Hall C, providing more space for exhibits and for rigs participating in the Overdrive Pride & Polish truck beauty show. In total, 506 exhibitors covered more than 475,000 square feet of exhibit space. All truck makers displayed at the corporate level, alongside leading trailer, engine and component manufacturers.

Another factor in the show’s success is the availability of 20-plus acres of adjacent, free truck parking, which offers owner-operators and company drivers easy access to the show. “We are committed to Dallas because of its accessibility by the industry and close proximity to important trucking activity and operations,” says Randy Schwartzenburg, GATS general manager. The Dallas Convention Center has agreed to host GATS during the last week in August through 2013.

Other key elements of this year’s show included the American Trucking Associations Highway Watch Certification Program, two country music concerts sponsored by Volvo and Mobil Delvac, educational seminars produced by the Texas Motor Transportation Association and several significant press conferences.
